The Langley Strong slate has announced another council candidate.

Shumail Ibrar Javed is a local technology executive and Willoughby resident, according to an announcement from the civic electoral organization.

“Every resident deserves to be heard before decisions are made, not after,” Javed said in the statement. “Good governance means setting priorities thoughtfully and planning carefully, not tackling everything at once while critical gaps in our neighbourhoods go unaddressed.”

Javed has an MBA from SFU’s Beedie School of Business, and is the CEO of MaxQA Testing.

He’s also a member of the Langley Sunrise Rotary Club, and has taken part in fundraisers for Langley Meals on Wheels, and the Giving Hearts Gala for the Langley Community Health and Hospital Foundation.

Javed has been involved with the Immigrant Women Initiative, and sponsoring the 75 Doors Campaign, which creates pathways for children’s mentorship.

“Shumail is a builder, professionally and in our community,” said Langley Strong mayoral candidate Jay Lundgren. “He understands that strong neighbourhoods are built on careful planning, transparent priorities, and listening to residents first.”

In addition to mayoral candidate Lundgren, the four formerly independent councillors on the Langley Township council all joined Langley Strong.

Lundgren has previously said the new group plans to have a full slate, which would mean eight council candidates, along with candidates for the Langley Board of Education.

The slate was formed this year to challenge the Progress For Langley slate, headed by Mayor Eric Woodward. It currently holds a majority on council, with five of the nine seats in total.

Civic elections in B.C. will be held on Oct. 17.
