A parent advocate, financial professional and community volunteer, Dalziel says every family should have a clear line to the people making decisions about their children’s education
Kathie Dalziel announced today that she will seek election as a Langley school trustee this October. She will be part of the Langley Strong team, joining sitting Trustees Candy Ashdown, Holly Dickinson, Charlie Fox and Tony Ward, and fellow candidate Neil Turner.
Dalziel has lived in the Township of Langley for 11 years, in the Walnut Grove neighbourhood, with her husband and daughter. She has spent almost 20 years working in the financial sector and currently works as a Medical Secretary at BC Cancer. She has served as Vice President of her daughter’s school Parent Advisory Council and Secretary of the Langley District Parent Advisory Council. She is currently the Vice President of the Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society, where she has served on the board for five years.

Dalziel says her financial background gives her a practical lens for Board decisions, and that her current work in healthcare has sharpened her sense of what public accountability should look like.

Dalziel is also active in the Indigenous community in Langley. She says that experience, in addition to her time advocating for students and families, shapes how she thinks about representation at the Board table.

Board Chair Candy Ashdown, who is running for a Langley Strong trustee seat, says Dalziel is a welcome addition to the team.

Dalziel would join the Board following a period of significant growth in the Langley School District. The District now serves approximately 27,600 students across 46 school sites. Since September 2024, the District has opened or secured provincial approval for 5,030 new student spaces, representing approximately $514.5 million in provincial investment, including three new schools and the joint stɑtľəw̌ (stot-low) Middle School and Emery Dosdall Secondary campus in Willoughby.

Langley’s single Board of Education serves both the City of Langley and the Township of Langley. Five trustees are elected in the Township and two in the City. Dalziel will seek a Township seat. General voting day is Saturday, October 17, 2026.
