Fox to run for school board under Langley Strong banner | Langley Advance Times

Sitting Langley school trustee Charlie Fox has announced he will run again this fall, but this time with the newly established Langley Strong slate.

Fox was announced as the latest recruit to the new local electoral organization which is challenging Township Mayor Eric Woodward and his Progress For Langley team.

Fox was a longtime educator and administrator in the Langley School District, serving as a teacher and then a principal, before he retired in 2007.

He also served four terms in the Langley Township council, from 2005 to 2018.

Fox announced he would bow out of the 2018 race, but in 2021 he was back as a candidate, this time running in a byelection that had been vacated by Megan Dykeman, after she won election as an NDP MLA.

Fox won again a year later in the 2022 general civic elections.

In addition to serving on two school district committees, Fox coordinates the Starfish Backpack program in four Aldergrove-area schools.

The program ensures that kids in need can take home nutritious food on the weekends every week during the school year.

The program has also partnered with Langley Meals on Wheels to help give families grocery gift cards during the summer months.

“I’m joining Langley Strong because this team shares the values our students, educators and families deserve: careful stewardship of public dollars, transparent decision-making, and a steady, long-term focus on student success,” Fox said in a statement from the new slate. “Our Board of Education plays a critical role in this community, and I’m proud to bring my experience to a team committed to getting it right.”

Langley Strong announced earlier this spring that it plans to run candidates for all nine seats, including mayor, on the Township council as well as for the five Township seats on the seven-member school board. The board’s other two seats are elected in Langley City.
