Barb Martens

FOR TOWNSHIP COUNCIL

Barb Martens is a first-term Township of Langley Councillor, longtime Walnut Grove resident, retired Vancouver Police Department constable, Rotarian, and dedicated community volunteer.

Since moving to Walnut Grove in 1994, Barb has built her life around family, service, public safety, and practical support for residents. She currently serves on her Rotary executive as secretary and chairs the SASSY Awards committee, supporting youth bursaries for local young people. Before being elected in 2022 as the top-polling councillor in the Township, Barb served 29 years in public service, including nine years with the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction and 20 years as a sworn police officer with the Vancouver Police Department. Her work focused on neighbourhood policing, crime prevention, homelessness, housing models, and community safety. She was a founding board member of BC Women in Law Enforcement and the only two-time recipient of BC Borstal Association awards for community crime prevention.

On council, Barb has been a strong voice for public safety, fiscal accountability, transparency, and responsive local government. She helped advance major public safety reforms, including additional RCMP and bylaw officers, a dedicated police priorities committee, and progress toward a separate Township RCMP detachment. She has also advocated for housing supports, infrastructure, animal welfare, road safety, and services for vulnerable residents.

Barb is running for re-election with the Langley Strong team because Langley needs steady leadership focused on people, not politics. She believes residents deserve safer communities, responsible spending, honest decision-making, and a council that listens. Barb will bring her own individual voice to the council table, serving with integrity, common sense, and a deep commitment to the Township she calls home.
